Epitaph

Cemeteries are unique places in our lives. Some are beautiful, some are historic, and some are even entertaining. There is a quiet sadness about all cemeteries because they are the final resting places of our loved ones. We intend to post pictures here of cemeteries and head stones that are original photographs. We are looking for beauty, dignity, funny and above all something interesting. Feel free to comment and to contribute. We will provide a mail box if you want to contribute.

Gold Rush?

A family trip to Alaska in August of 2000 landed us in the town of Liarsville.
Part of the tour included panning for gold. Indeed, we captured a tiny nugget sifting sand in icy water.

Along the way we visited a cemetery of folks who had headed west in the gold rush. Trees and stumps have grown around the tombstones and monuments and tourists tread on sacred soil memorializing the lives and stories of the hunt for riches never found.

Old Gnome?

Who is that “Old Soul” resting beneath the stone bearing his name?

Would you believe he sleeps in a Hawaiian shirt, flannel PJ bottoms and sandals?
Indeed! He sleeps with just the slightest whisper of a smile while closed eyes dream.
Rest assured, though a winter snow has fallen, he is wrapped in a bear hug of love above.
I placed a garden gnome holding a lantern by his marker -
lighting the way for those of us that love him to one day follow him home.

Love forever

Love is often a theme in cemeteries. Valentines day is coming and I thought this might be appropriate.

Peace,
